Visit the Galleries at Bloomsburg University

If visiting cultural and historical places is to your liking, we offer a wide variety of opportunities dedicated to the arts. Columbia and Montour counties possess museums, theatrical events, galleries, arts and crafts festivals, artist co-ops, and much more.

Artistic works in different mediums by regional and guest artists are available for viewing and for sale in various galleries throughout the area. Whether you are looking to go to a current exhibit or to do some fine art shopping, you’ll certainly have your selection of paintings, jewelry, pottery, sculpture, and more. One can stroll through Bloomsburg University’s Haas Art Gallery or the Gallery at the Greenly Center to view seasonal exhibits by both students and local artists. The Exchange Gallery and Artspace Gallery in downtown Bloomsburg each offer monthly exhibitions and showcase local talent at its finest. Just north of Bloomsburg, English Hill Books & Art Gallery, located in a 19th-century farmhouse, features a full line of illustrated children's books plus artwork and crafts by local and regional artisans.

Quality theatrical performances are also available in our area. Talented, professional actors and performers produce live classic and contemporary plays, as well as music, jazz, and all variations of dance. Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, Bloomsburg University’s Arts in Bloom Series, andBucknell’s Weis Center for the Performing Arts are three venues to explore if performances are part of your quest for culture.

Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble (BTE) was founded in 1978 to establish a resident professional ensemble for the production of quality entertainment and educational programs for the region, and to promote the arts. BTE offers a wide variety of heartfelt, hilarious, and thought-provoking performance art throughout the year at affordable prices. If you’d like to incorporate more history in your tours, area communities have several offerings. Danville shows the Montgomery House as well as the Montour County Historical Society. Berwick’s gem is the Victorian Jackson Mansion which offers tours several times weekly. The personnel take pride in its period decorations especially during the Christmas season. If you’re pursuing family histories and genealogies, perhaps you will look to visit one of our area Historical Societies.

For those interested in more current history and artifacts, Bloomsburg has it covered. Spending the day at Bill’s Old Bike Barn will allow you to explore historic bike memorabilia through the ages. It is a fascinating journey that will rekindle many old memories of times gone by. It is a legacy of history.
