“Follow the Leader” Student-Teacher Show Now Open

The Exchange Gallery invited art teachers from middle and high schools from around our region to display their own work alongside that of some of their students, and you can see the “Follow the Leader” exhibition through the 21st of March at 24 East Main Street in Bloomsburg. The show has work from six teachers and 21 of their students from Northwest Area High School, Millville Area High School, the Hazleton Area Arts & Humanities Academy, Columbia County Christian School, Central Columbia Middle School, and Bloomsburg Area High School.

Media in the show include acrylic, oil, tempera, and watercolor paintings; ink, pencil, and scratchboard drawings; printmaking; ceramics; digital art; stained glass; and various mixed media. Of the 27 artists, 22 have work on display at the Exchange Gallery for the first time.

The reception for “Follow the Leader” will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, the 7th of March, during downtown Bloomsburg’s First Friday.

The Exchange supports young artists throughout the year: Every October, The Exchange coordinates window-painting on Main Street in Bloomsburg, with middle and high schools from throughout Columbia County taking part, and the Gallery’s annual “Cash & Carry” show always includes artwork from dozens of children of all ages.

Since opening at its current location in 2014, the Exchange Gallery has hosted more than 80 exhibitions, and about a thousand people have displayed their artwork – everyone from Bloomsburg University art professors to two-year-old children. The Gallery has only one rule: Artwork must fit through the front door.

The Exchange Gallery at 24 East Main Street in Bloomsburg has regular hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with occasional variations. For more information about The Exchange, and its weekly hours, visit ExchangeArts.org or Facebook.com/ExchangeArtsDotOrg or call 570-317-2596.
