Montour County Historical Society Speaker’s Series

The MCHS presents its 2019 Speaker’s Series. These presenters will speak on the history of Montour County and/or events in our past that relate to Montour County History. The programs take place at the Boyd House Museum, Wednesday evenings (listed below). The doors open at 6:30 pm, program starts at 7:00 pm, admission is $5.00 for all. (including members of MCHS )

May 8 …. Ed and Dave Thomas of Danville will discuss our local Native Americans and display a collection of Native American Artifacts

May 22 … Gene Shipe will talk about Danville Korean War Veterans who served in  Battery A, 176th AFBN and stationed in Pusan  Korea. Local Korean War veterans and families from throughout Montour County are encouraged to take part in the program and share their stories and memories  (this program is free)

June 5 … William Baillie, historian and author will speak on the life of General William Montgomery and is life in Danville

June 26 … Paul Allison, a Lancaster County rifle maker will provide a program on Colonial flintlock rifles and display his collection of flintlocks

July 3 … Author and  Historian Terry Diener will present “The Life of Philanthropist Thomas Beaver”

July 17 … Linda Sones of the Columbia/Montour Visitors Bureau will discuss the Covered Bridges of Columbia and Montour Counties

August 7 … Danville Native Sue Reichen Boardman, Leadership Program Director and Licensed Battlefield Guide with the Gettysburg Foundation, will talk about Montour County at  the Battle of Gettysburg

August 21 … Andrew ‘Cubby’ Lysiak  presents ‘Early Revolutionary War Era Weapons’

September 4 … open (TBA)

September 18 … Mary Weigley, a local historian and author from Lebanon County, will present “A History of the 7th PA Cavalry”, which included many men from Montour County
