The Exchange Arts and the Bloomsburg Singers present an event like no other, a performance of the science-fiction silent film masterpiece “Metropolis” with live, improvised organ accompaniment by world-renowned musical artist Peter Krasinski and choral selections by the Bloomsburg Singers. “Metropolis” is one of the pioneering films of the science-fiction genre and one of the great masterworks of film. It has something for everybody: stunning imagery and awe-inspiring sets, robots and dystopian machinery, class warfare, and more! The event will begin at 7pm with a pop-up gallery of work by local artists inspired by the film. At 7:30pm, the Bloomsburg Singers will sing a 25 minute “overture.” The film will begin at 8pm (after sunset). Peter Krasinski is one of the world’s leading experts on organ improvisation and silent film accompaniment. He is a conductor, organist, and music educator who consistently delivers imaginative performances that elevate and inform diverse audiences. His performances have been hailed in the press as “sublimely spiritual” and his improvisations have been called “stunning” and “seamless.”
