Two non-profit partners, The Exchange and the Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts, present a Blues double bill to knock your socks off: The Alexis P. Suter Band and Tas Cru and His Tortured Souls!
Both of them making their Berwick debuts, these bands have wowed crowds across the country and around the world.
Alexis burst on to the music scene as a regular performer at Levon Helm’s legendary Midnight Rambles held in Woodstock, New York. Levon was captivated by what he called Alexis’s wonderful spirit, and he had her and the band open for him nearly a hundred times. He said, “She is one of those wonderful spirits, she’s got her arms around you; you can feel that.” Alexis has garnered nominations at the Annual Blues Music Awards for the Koko Taylor Award and the Best Soul Blues Female Artist award. Her repertoire ranges from old-time Delta Blues like “John the Relevator” to classic electric Blues like “Got My Mojo Working” to vintage Soul including “Take Me to the River” — and even to the Beatles and her remarkable rendering of “Let It Be”. Alexis is like the entire diverse history of the Blues wrapped up into one soulful package.
Tas Cru is truly a Blues eclectic who refuses to let his music be bound to just one style. With a repertoire of over 80 original songs from multiple albums as well dozens of crowd-pleasing classics, this seasoned road warrior gives folks what they want wherever he plays. His songs testify to his reputation as a Bluesman who is accomplished in and comfortable with almost every kind of Blues. Cru was honored with his first Blues Music Award nomination in 2018 for “Simmered & Stewed”. That album and the two that followed were all recipients of the Syracuse Area Music Awards (the SAMMY’s) for best Blues recordings. All of his live performances are highly entertaining!
