FCWA strives to present programs about all the elements of our watershed. But there’s an important member of our environment that we’ve so far overlooked. Our September program will correct that oversight. Our guest for the evening is Dr. Irmgard Seidl-Adams, who frequently presents programs for the Bucknell Institute of Lifelong Learning, better known as BILL. Her topic is “Mosses: a small overlooked universe.” We’ll meet Dr. Seidl-Adams at the pavilion at Kocher Park at 6:00 p.m., where she will present an overview of mosses (and possibly liverworts, too). Then she’ll lead us on a short walk to locate examples of mosses living in the park. Please bring any magnifying glasses with 10X or higher magnification, if you have them. We will have at least two such magnifying glasses and a dissecting microscope on site so we can take a closer look. With our new awareness of bryophytes, we’ll no longer be able to overlook the universe of mosses that surrounds us. Pavilion at Kocher Park, 1519 State Route 487, Orangeville, PA. Wear sturdy shoes and bring insect repellent. The sun will set at 7:24, so a flashlight may also be helpful.
