Musicians and singers who love medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music will be gathering to hone their skills in Bloomsburg over Labor Day weekend, and the public will have a chance to hear them at a free concert.
The Bloom Early Music Workshop opens Friday, Sept. 1, at the historic St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 Market St., Bloomsburg. Up to 30 musicians and singers will be studying with professional performers and teachers, singing and playing period instruments including recorders, viols, lute, harpsichord, and an assortment of other instruments from the period.
The weekend culminates Sunday with a concert from 11: 45 a.m. -12:30 p.m. at the church, 123 Market St., Bloomsburg, followed by a free-will offering, which will go to the church as a thank-you for donating space for the workshop.
The workshop costs $195 for musicians. There are also work-study scholarships available. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is July 30. Registrations are due Aug. 15 — after that, new attendees will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
