In Theatrical Scene from Danville, PA, five new, short plays inspired by Danville, PA will premiere in a script-in-hand reading on Thursday, December 17 at 7:30pm on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/davidamillerdirector and will continue to play through Wednesday, December 23. The project is led by David A. Miller, who has created the plays. One of the plays is made up of words from community members gathered through interviews and surveys. Another of the plays was created collaboratively with the 6th graders from St. Joseph School.
The cast includes professional actors from the community and students from the theatre program at Bloomsburg University. The actors are Mary Patricia Burnett, Elizabeth Dowd, Lydia Hannibal, Andrew Hubatsek, Gibryl Livingston, and Kalie Peterson.
This project is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and Community Partnerships RC&D Council, Inc., a locally led non-profit dedicated to improving quality of life in rural Pennsylvania and a partner in the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) program. This project is also supported by the College of Liberal Arts at Bloomsburg University. Creative. Critical. Flexible.
The following organizations have partnered with Theatrical Scenes from Danville, PA to create and to share this work with the community: Danville Area Arts, Danville Business Alliance, Old Forge Brewing Company, St. Joseph School, and Thomas Beaver Public Library. There were many individuals who contributed their thoughts and feelings about Danville through online surveys, interviews, and publications.
David A. Miller (Playwright) is an Associate Professor of theatre performance at Bloomsburg University where he teaches acting, directing, and playwriting. He regularly directs plays for the program, including last spring’s Everybody by Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins and Post-Audition by Brian Bond in this fall’s The Screen Plays. His plays included Mystic in the Savage State (Strange Sun Theater, NYC) and The Flames (The Collective, NYC). David was the lead playwright for Remembered: Theatrical Stories from the Rosemont Cemetery produced and performed by the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble in the cemetery itself last fall.
