The Perseid Meteor Shower should be approaching its peak. We’re talking 60 to 70 meteors per hour! All we need is a clear night and a dark sky. And we happen to know of a certain island in Espy where it gets very dark indeed …
Chris Ehmer, of Susquehanna Adventures, has cut a meadow onto his upper island that should provide us with plenty of open skies for stargazing. He’s also arranging for some live music before the celestial show, and is catering a cookout supper! He’ll even ferry over our camping gear and shuttle us up to the put-in!
Meanwhile, Turkey Hill Brewing said they’ll deliver any crowlers we order to be shuttled to the island for the special price of just $5 each, including tax! We’ll post the menu when they send it to us.
Don’t want to spend the night? That’s O.K. – the island is right by the takeout, so you can paddle back to your car in a few minutes whenever you’re ready.
The price is $65 for everything, including a rental kayak. Have your own boat but need it shuttled up to the put-in? Then it’s just $55. Don’t need a shuttle for your boat? Then the price is down to $50.

Date: Saturday, Aug. 8, provided there’s no flood! (Granted, the star gazing will be ruined if it’s raining. But we’ll still have good food, good company and good music!)
